Learn How You Can Support Young Women and Their Families

Why Volunteer

The time, energy, and talent volunteers bring to their roles make it possible for us to keep our doors open and our programs running at capacity.

Volunteering with Jessie’s Centre gives you the opportunity to contribute to nurturing the healthy development of pregnant and parenting young women and their children. The work you do will benefit others and can create a meaningful experience for you as well. You can meet new people, build experience, enhance your resume, and be part of a pro-choice feminist team.

Roles Available

  • Jessie’s provides nutritious meals for pregnant women, young mothers and their children. Our volunteers are on hand to help with food deliveries, cooking and clean up.

  • Our volunteers provide a welcoming environment for pregnant women, young mothers and children in the Parent-Child Centre. They work alongside Jessie’s staff to offer stimulating, quality care for infants and toddlers, including age appropriate programming as well as routine tasks such as feeding and helping children get to sleep.

Our main roles are Kitchen Assistant Volunteer and  Parent-Child Centre Volunteer. Other occasional as-needed roles include donation sorter and belly caster.

FAQs

Who is eligible?

We accept volunteers ages 18 and over.

How long do I have to commit?

Every volunteer has one 3 – 4 hour shift per week and we ask volunteers for a 1-year commitment. We do understand that sometimes commitments may need to be adjusted.

How do I start?

Email our volunteer coordinator at volunteercoordinator@jessiescentre.org and they will send you all the materials to help you better decide if Jessie’s Centre is the right fit for you. If Jessie’s is right for you, you will undergo a phone screening, an interview and a police check. If you receive a position, you will get a tour of the centre and training at your first shift.
